Evaluation Q1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Below I have embedded my padlet which contains the conventions of existing media texts.

I have included the title and release date because these are the very essential for the audience to see/have information of because this is what determines the audience to consume the film at the cinema or DVD see The Intruders trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SP4ctHlPSQ8 (1:27).
I have used the conventions of the characters looking like victims. In my trailer this is shown by extreme close ups of each of the characters eye, I have used this because the audience will feel uneasy because they feel like the characters are seeing something which they are not making the audience want to watch more to find out what it is they are seeing.
I have also used a high angle shot when Ree is lying on the floor with blood on her face, this high angle shot makes her feel vulnerable.
Another shot which I have used is the mid shot of Paige's feet hanging from a tree. This is a mid shot because I did not want to the audience to see who it was because this would then ruin the ending for the audience as they know that Paige will die meaning they would not want to watch the film.

Below is my commentary explaining my decisions of using, developing or challenging the conventions of existing media products in the production of my teaser and theatrical trailer.

Transcript:My billboard poster supports all the conventions from real media products such as title, actors, tagline, date, reviews and a large still image. I have explained the reasons to why i have used these conventions in my ThingLink which is embedded above.
I have supported all the conventions of a film poster such as title, actors, large still image, tagline and release date. However I have challenged the convention of reviews. I have challenged this because the poster will be too busy and not follow the correct visual syntax.
The review which I have included in my DVD cover from the Daily Mail is not suited on the film poster because the audience is different. The audience of a poster are younger than the consumer of the DVD therefore a rating from the Daily Mail would not attract the audience going to see the film in the cinema.
My magazine supports most of the conventions. My house style is red and black, this supports the conventions of a magazine because it stands out to the audience and is attracted to all types, I have chosen red and black because film magazines are suitable for both male and females of all ages. I have challenged the conventions of my magazine front cover containing a banner because I felt that this would take emphasis away from the headline and cover lines, making the visual syntax uneasy to follow.
My teaser trailer is very similar to my theatrical trailer however it is much shorter being just over 30 seconds and my theatrical trailer being roughly one minute and 30 seconds .
I have included a sound effect of an eery noise such as a bang for when the inter titles are present, this is also shown in The Woman in Black Angel of Death trailer which creates a build up of fear and the noise makes the audience jump. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYk0slXSY6s (1:12).
A teaser trailer is usually very fast pace with the action happening in short montage of clips. I have challenged this convention because I have included the slow establishing shot of the unknown figure to give an eery effect.
The tracking shot of the unknown feet walking have also been slowed down to create fear.
My Theatrical Trailer supports the conventions of having a soundtrack throughout. However the soundtrack I have chosen contains no dialogue because I had speech in my clips which were used for the trailer therefore I am developing the convention of including a sound track. Another reason to why I did not use a soundtrack with dialogue is that I wanted to build the suspense towards the clips that are being shown and not have the audience focussed on the lyrics. I have challenged the conventions of including a voice over, my reason for this is because the trailer can be easily followed and does not need a narrator due to the genre being a horror and wanting an eery effect.
My theatrical trailer also supports the conventions of including inter titles. In my trailer I have included two inter titles as well as a review from 'Empire'. My inter titles are very short and kept to a minimal as I do not want to give away the narrative too much however these inter titles are effective. This is valid in all trailers such as The babadook trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5WQZzDRVtw (1:49).
I have also challenged the convention of including the Actors names. I have challenged this convention because the actors are not well known and in my opinion this looks unprofessional. Most of the existing trailers I have looked at also do not contain Actors name for example Apartment 143 trailer. This trailer is embedded on my blog below this video.

Evaluation Q4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
I used a variety of media technologies during the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages of my advanced portfolio which were very helpful to me. I have answered question four of my evaluation using an on-line mood board, unfortunately this can not be embedded on to my blog. The link for my mood board is below:

First Edit of Theatrical Trailer
This is the first draft of my Theatrical trailer, I plan to change a few elements to help engage the audience more. I am going to split the clip when the characters are introducing each other and setting up camp and include each of the characters eye in-between. This I feel will keep the audience watching the trailer and not get bored because there is one 20 second long clip.

Trailer Soundtrack
For my A2 media trailer 'Intense' I have used music from Purple Planet, the song is called 'Possession'. This will be used in my trailer for non-profitable purposes and posted on my youtube account. I have not contacted the producer because it is royalty free music.

Self-evaluation and teacher feedback
At the moment my photography included myself as the model and not the other characters. The mise-en-scene is basic and the setting is a white sheet which does not fit the genre of horror or the setting which the trailer is set in. The feedback I received from my teacher and other pupils in several media classes was that I needed photography which included the correct setting, mise-en-scene and include all of the characters.
